It's National Animal Shelter and Rescue Appreciation Week, and our friends at North Shore Animal League America, along with Beth Stern and Howard Stern, have been working on a very big project to help rescue even more animals.
Bianca's Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center, named in honor of Howard and Beth Stern's beloved furry best friend, is a one-of-a-kind, cage-free environment for rescue cats at the North Shore Animal League America campus.
Designer John Gidding surprised Rachael with a special room he designed in the facility, named in her honor: The Rachael Ray Room!
Check out the photos below to see the amazing kitty cat jungle John designed and the team from Completely Custom Construction built — and watch the video above to see Rach's reaction to the sweet surprise.
"One of the challenges in this room is this massive column right in the middle of the room, so I'm trying to make the columns disappear behind the canopy and trunk of a tree," John says.
"I have three catwalks that are seven-and-a-half feet above, that allows them to look down on all the humans that they control," the designer jokes.
"Two holes exist so that when these cat scratch posts are worn away, they'll just snip them off, buy some more twine and create new cat scratchers without having to purchase new ones from a store," according to John.
"These shelves have plants in them, as well as toys, which sneak right in and out so that whoever's in here trying to adopt these cats can play with them and just have a great time," John says.
If you are in the New York area and want to visit the adoption center, Bianca's Furry Friends will be open to the public later this month.
Rach is also passionate about dogs of course, so back in the studio, she and John got to play with two adorable puppies who need homes.
