Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent, the couple behind "Nate & Jeremiah By Design," may have their own design dilemmas to resolve — but when it comes to other couples' debates, they seem to see eye to eye.
A studio audience member named Margaret tells Nate and Jeremiah that she wants to paint her kitchen cabinets white or grey, but her husband, Eugene, is "100% against painting the oak any kind of color."
"It's a lot of work [and] she wants me to do the work," Eugene says. "We have 19 cabinets, 25 doors, 8 drawers. It's like taking a filet mignon and making it a hamburger."
Unfortunately for Eugene, though, Nate and Jeremiah agree with his wife!
"I love oak and I love wood. It's beautiful, but this looks like a bad spray tan," Jeremiah says.
In fact, Nate thinks a painting upgrade would make it seem like they spent $50,000 on a new look, especially paired with the stylish appliances and countertops the couple already has.
So, Nate and Jeremiah suggest painting the base cabinets grey to neutralize the stainless steel appliances and tie in with the countertops. Then, they say to finish the two-tone look by painting the upper cabinets white to modernize the space.
The experts add that taking the doors off, sanding them and spray painting them outside can help make this an easier project to take on.
"It's going to be an annoying weekend project, but I really believe it would be worth it," Jeremiah says.
This is the kind of honesty we crave!
