Dr. Shereene Idriss, AKA the "Pillow Talk Derm," is a NYC-based cosmetic dermatologist who gives free skincare advice from bed in her #pillowtalkderm Instagram story sessions. She recorded her own nightly skincare routine at home and is sharing it with us along with the products she's currently using and loving.
STEP 1: REMOVE YOUR MAKEUP
Dr. Shereene starts by putting her hair up, because as she says, "this is serious business!" Then, she uses cotton balls and Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Cleansing Water and Makeup Remover Solution to remove any traces of makeup left on her skin at the end of the day.
STEP 2: WASH YOUR FACE
Next, she washes her face thoroughly with Vanicream Gentle Facial Cleanser. The derm recommends trying Vanicream especially if you're somebody with allergies, "because it's not going to irritate your skin," she says.
STEP 3: EXFOLIATE + APPLY SERUMS
"I really love Glycolic Acid because it also helps brighten and it has been proven to help stimulate collagen," the Pillow Talk Derm says. She puts a couple drops of L'Oreal Revitalift Derm Intensives 10% Pure Glycolic Acid Serum in her hand and massages it onto her whole face, extending down to her neck.
Next, Dr. Shereene applies Drunk Elephant C-Firma Vitamin C Day Serum. "When you put it on, it offers an instant glow," she says.
She recommends using a retinol after the vitamin C serum. She likes First Aid Beauty FAB Skin Lab Retinol Serum 0.25% Pure Concentrate. "This does help collagen production and it helps with the fine lines that we start to develop as we get 'wiser' in life," Dr. Shereene says.
STEP FOUR: LOCK IN MOISTURE
"Once I'm done with the washing of my face, exfoliation and the serums, I then want to lock it in with a moisturizer," she continues.
Clé de Peau Beauté Intensive Fortifying Emulsion "smells heavenly, and a little bit goes a long way," according to the derm.
"Then, I seal it in with a moisturizer. I really am liking this one by Tatcha The Dewy Skin Cream. It does really leave your skin dewy," she says.
Finally, she puts on a little bit of OleHenriksen Truth Banana Bright Eye Crème under her eyes. And voila!
Now, because this might feel like a lot of products, Dr. Shereene picked out three she says you should absolutely use. "I live and die for skincare — I'm a dermatologist. Most people maybe can't do all of this," she says. But if you have to pick three things to do, she recommends at least doing these:
1. Take off your makeup
2. Wash your face
3. Find a moisturizer that you love
