Abby Kulp, a DIY pro, who has gained over a million followers on Instagram and TikTok for her creative, money-saving project ideas—like this cool rock climbing wall for her boys' room, box molding in the halls and even making her own cement floor tiles for a bathroom renovation. Here, she shows you how to replicate a $2,000 dresser for under $100—using cheap dowels to create a fluted, grooved look.
"A couple of years ago my husband and I bought this fixer upper for our big family. We have five kids, so I'm all about stretching that DIY budget as far as I can possibly take it, which usually means learning how to do the projects on my own through lots of trial and error and tons of YouTube tutorials," she explains.
"This is one of my favorite DIY projects ever because it's so easy and fun to do. So, I started out with a 15 year old black stained dresser. I really wanted to give it a new look," she says.
"The fluted trend that you see on the front is super popular. I got 60 packs of dowel rods, glued them to the front and then for the rest of the dresser I did sand and refinished it to match the same wood tone. Then, I popped on some new hardware," Abby says.
"The dresser I really wanted was over $2,000, but I was able to create the same look for under $100," she shares. How cool is that?
