A lot of us have more stuff than we know what to do with — and it creates unbearable clutter in our homes.

Now, decluttering is an option, of course — but for the things you need or want to keep, but don't know where to store them, put your walls to work.

CREATE EASILY ACCESSIBLE (AND PRETTY) STORAGE

We use wall hooks all the time to keep our stuff organized — from hanging coats and keys to towels in the bathroom. But design pro and co-host of TLC's "Trading Spaces," John Gidding, says they come in handy in a nursery, too.

"You don't need to worry too much about closet doors being closed or a neat look all around," John says. "You want things to be accessible." When you have a baby in your arms, this will be a life-saver!

BUILD ACCESSORIES INTO YOUR DECOR SCHEME INSTEAD OF STORING THEM OUT OF SIGHT

But hooks can do a lot more than help you organize!

For example, hang pretty accessories — like scarves, hats, necklaces and bags — on nail hooks or knobs. You'll not only tidy up your closet, but also beautify your space.

"Hooks add personality," John says. "They're great for accessorizing with and keeping things close at hand."

One of his favorite "hook" design tricks? Using them to create a diamond pattern across the wall.

USE A SHADOWBOX TO TURN KNICK KNACKS INTO ART

Another way to spruce up (and take advantage of) empty wall space? Use a shadow box or framed board to arrange all those knick knacks and memorabilia (or "memory clutter," as organizational guru Peter Walsh calls it) you have lying around!
