Whether you’ve recently painted a room or completed a kid’s craft project, you probably have some cans of leftover paint hanging around. We tapped Genevieve Gorder, one of our favorite interior designers from HGTV’s Genevieve’s Renovation and Dear Genevieve, to share some of her favorite projects for using up the rest of those colors you probably obsessed over picking out.
MAKE FIXTURES POP
Gorder uses leftover brightly-colored paint to give an instant lift to bathroom or kitchen fixtures. “Right now, what’s trending are really poppy colors in our metals,” explains Gorder. “We’re doing matte metals, hardware pulls, faucets.” You can spray or paint a couple of layers with a brush, but don’t skip the sealant! A good sealant applied after painting will prevent your handiwork from yellowing or chipping.
Watch the video above to see Genevieve’s hot-pink handiwork in action!

TRANSFORM A GLASS JAR INTO A CHIC ACCESSORY
Glass jars make great storage, and they can look super chic too!
Next time you find yourself with an abundance of them, use your leftover paint to give them a simple upgrade. “It’s an insider trick we use styling on sets all the time!” says Gorder.
Put leftover paint inside the jar, then swirl to coat. Once the interior is coated, turn the jar upside down and let dry.
Check out the video above to see just how easy it is!

TURN A CHEAP FRAME INTO A MESSAGE BOARD
Thrift store shelves are overflowing with cheap frames—but Gorder has a two-part upgrade that can turn a junky frame into stunner! “I spray the cheapest frames and put them in the most expensive places and no one ever knows,” says Gorder.
Give the frame itself a quick coat of your favorite paint and then paint the glass with chalkboard paint. A cute way to share quick messages around the house!
