How to DIY an Easy + Inexpensive Cement Planter in Just 1 Day

Sam Raimondi is right: you don’t need a lot of time or a huge budget to make fun items for your home. The psychologist and side-hustling DIY’er (who has a beautiful house full of home renovation projects) shows you how to make a cement planter using common objects you may already have. Did we mention it only takes 1 day to make?

Just take 2 plastic containers, with one that could fit inside the other, and grease them well with vegetable oil.

Then, mix cement with water and stir until it has a pancake-like consistency. Sam says you can also add pigment powder to your cement to change its color.

Pour the concrete mix into the big container and firmly press the smaller container into it to make the mold. Hold the smaller container in place by using a weight or heavy-duty tape. Let it set for about 30 minutes, pop it out, sand down the edges, and add your plants!

Don’t have time to water your plants? Sam recommends using low-maintenance succulents.
