Inspiring Sisters Help Ukrainian Refugees Find Affordable NYC Housing | Ukrainian Habitat Fund

Heartwarming! As part of our "Good People, Good Works" series, Rach speaks with Ukrainian-born sisters Lidiya and Gabriella Oros about their organization, the Ukrainian Habitat Fund (UHF), in which they tirelessly help Ukrainian refugees find affordable housing in New York City. The Oros sisters say they have already helped eight families, and hope to assist the 40 families on their waitlist.

After Lidiya and Gabriella shared their inspiring stories (they came to America at ages 11 and 12, respectively!) Rach surprised them with a $10,000 donation from LensDirect, a family-owned business with Ukrainian roots.

Wondering how you can help? Here are some ideas:

  • You can donate to UHF through their website ($50-$150 can cover one month of utilities for a deserving family).
  • You can also volunteer with UHF by helping them connect families, organize events, or coordinate partnerships. Lidiya and Gabriella say they are always looking for more hands.
  • If you own property (not just in NYC), you can open it up to people in need. For more information, contact UHF HERE.
