Was Ellie Kemper Inspired to Bake After Hosting "Great American Baking Show"?

As co-host of “The Great American Baking Show,” Ellie Kemper is surrounded by talented and “charming, charming” bakers who she compares to “doctors” and “scientists.” But that doesn’t mean the actress — known for her roles on “The Office” and “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” — was inspired to bake desserts of her own.

While speaking to Rach, Ellie says she had “a desire to learn how to bake” for a couple of days, but then realized:

“This is hard. I can’t bake,” she says.

However, Ellie says the last thing she successfully whipped up was a gooey butter cake — famous in her home state of Missouri — made with cake mix.

“It’s not so much baking as it is assembling, and I’m all for that. And it turns out great because the measurements are there.”
