Here at our show, we're all about cheap and cheerful solutions to some of the most common problems. So we asked one of our favorite interior designers and the star of Food Network's "Restaurant: Impossible" (which just got rebooted!), Taniya Nayak, to answer kitchen design questions that she's asked all the time.
(Taniya has made over a ton of spaces on our set, like our audience waiting room, so you know we trust her!)
1. HOW DO I UPDATE MY KITCHEN BACKSPLASH WITHOUT HIRING A CONTRACTOR?
"Who says it has to be tile?" Yep, Taniya said that — and she's a professional interior designer!
For a backsplash update that doesn't call for hiring a contractor, the interior design pro suggests peel-and-stick wall covering (which she calls the easiest option) OR carpet tape, which can be used to adhere your wall covering of choice.
"You want to make sure it's a cleanable surface — maybe vinyl," Taniya suggests. "[And] you don't want to put it behind the stove, that's the only thing that I would avoid."
Watch the video above to see the covering Taniya chose. (Rach actually thought it was tile when she stepped onto the set!)

2. HOW DO I DIY A MARBLE COUNTERTOP?
Taniya and Rach agree that laminate countertops can often look a bit dated. So, how do you get that trendy marble look without dishing out a TON of money?
A countertop paint kit, Taniya suggests. And get this — they can go for as little as $100.

3. HOW DO I SAVE SPACE AND ADD STORAGE IN A SMALL KITCHEN?
Take advantage of spaces you wouldn't normally consider for storage — like underneath the cabinets.
If you're a coffee or tea drinker, for example, hang your mugs on a rod underneath. And voila — instant free cabinet space without having to part ways with some of your favorite mugs.
Plus, "it's like jewelry for your kitchen," Taniya says.
4. HOW DO I ARRANGE ALL OF MY HOUSEPLANTS?
Taniya's solution? A pot rack (yep!), which you can find at most big box home stores.
Get your kitchen space back by HANGING plants from the pot rack. And you can hide the pot rack itself with a bit of faux greenery like the Food Network star does in the video above. (Seriously, give it a watch! You'll be inspired.)
As for potted plants, floating shelves are your best friend.
"Create your own living wall," Taniya says.
