Some home improvement projects can be huge undertakings that end up costing a bundle. Luckily, discount DIYs for your home are becoming more and more popular (because who doesn’t love saving money?!)
When Jessica — a viewer from New Haven, Connecticut — challenged herself to redecorate her bathroom, while spending as little money as possible, she had to come up with inventive ways to DIY on a budget.
Jessica successfully transformed the space — taking a pretty standard bathroom and making it feel more spacious, modern and fresh — due largely to her genius solution for upgrading her tile without having to replace it.

Jessica shared more than one tip, but our favorite is her alternative to replacing bathroom tile (which can be expensive as well as time-consuming). Breathe new life into your current flooring using a stencil and some paint!
“I didn’t replace the tile floor — I painted it,” Jessica says. “I picked out a stencil (about two feet wide), that I thought would not be overbearing but would complement the space.”
As Jessica shared on her blog, the only other tools she used were a quart of white chalk paint, an 8-ounce jar of gold chalk paint and three coats of leftover exterior polyurethane.
And the end result is like night and day! Not only does the paint brighten up the room, but you can hardly tell it’s the same tile.
