Can You Get Money Back If the Price of Your Flight Drops?

When gearing up for a big vacation, people often book their flights months in advance in hopes of scoring a good deal. But, what happens if your airfare drops in price AFTER you purchased your tickets? 

We asked lawyer and personal finance pro Erika Kullberg (Instagram: @erikankullberg) — who has built a huge online following (19M+ combined followers) for reading and explaining companies’ terms-and-conditions to make sure consumers know their rights — to answer common travel policy questions. 

As she famously says in her videos, she reads the fine print so you don’t have to! 

So... if you book a flight and it becomes cheaper later on, can you get any money back? 

Erika Says... 

In most cases, no.  

However, Erika says you may be able to cancel that flight without penalty within 24 hours — as long as it’s at least 7 days before the departure. 

In this situation, if you see that the price went down within 24 hours, simply cancel your flight and buy the new, cheaper flight. 

But, Erika admits that this scenario is quite rare.
