Hairstylist-To-The-Stars Explains Why Celebrities Wear Hair Nets On The Red Carpet

Red carpet hairstyles often look too daunting to recreate, but take it from hairstylist-to-the-stars (like Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez) Chris Appleton — it can be done! And he's spilling his Hollywood hacks.

To help a viewer named Janet who wants to be able to pull off a sleek, professional-looking updo with her long and heavy hair on her own, Chris used the style he created for Hailee Steinfeld at the 2017 Oscars® as inspiration.

Looks complicated, right? But it's not — thanks to hairnets! (You might have even heard about this trick before, since Duchess Kate Middleton is known for using it.)

All you have to do is put your hair into two simple ponytails and wrap each pony in a hairnet.

"It almost gives [the hair] a water-like fabric," Chris says, which allows you to then twist your hair into any shape you'd like. Chris calls the shape he did on Janet a rose. Have a look:
