Do you ever glance at a recipe and avoid it because it requires you to do something annoying, like grate ginger or zest a lemon?
Milk Street author, Chef Chris Kimball, feels your pain and wants to help — with five clever kitchen gadgets that he's found make those annoying tasks, well, less annoying.
1. Lékué Citrus Sprayer Set
This clever gadget essentially turns citrus fruits into spray "bottles" — either to finish a dish with or add hints of citrus to cocktails. And the best part is you can throw the lemon (or whatever!) back in the fridge with the gadget still attached — ready for the next use!
Use it for: Masala-Rubbed Blackened Salmon
2. Tupperware Citrus Peeler
"This shouldn't work, it's too easy … [but] this thing actually works," Chris says.
Use it for: Bitter Greens & Orange Salad
3. Rachael Ray Vegetable & Fruit Peeler
"Here's what I love — the handle's well-designed, so it's comfortable," Chris says.
Use it for: Roasted Sweet Potatoes with Toasted Spices
4. OXO Mango Splitter
"Pitting a mango is right at the top of my list of things I don't like to do at all. And I've tried a lot of mango slicers and pitters over the years," the Milk Street author says. "This one really does the job. It's great."
Use it for: Mango & Coconut Rice Pudding
5. moHA! Rotating Ginger Grater
"The best thing is it has a windshield wiper underneath," Chris says — so all the grated ginger doesn't stick to the teeth of the grater.
Use it for: Triple Ginger Scones With Chocolate Chunks
