After catching up with Rachael over video chat, former First Lady Michelle Obama took some time to answer questions from our viewers on everything from voting to spending time at home with her family during the pandemic.
Ava, an elementary school teacher from Boca Raton, Florida, wants to know how Mrs. Obama and President Barack Obama keep date night special. Ava asks, "How do you keep that spark and that romance alive, when we've been quarantining for so long?"
And while the former first lady admits she was "a little bit salty" because President Obama's been writing his book all summer and didn't have as much free time, she says he recently surprised her with a lunch date on the beach.
"He's finished [with the book]. It's coming out, all that good stuff. As a treat, he surprised me with a beach lunch date, just the two of us," Mrs. Obama says. "Because we're in Martha's Vineyard, and we live close to a beach and things are more quiet now."
"He had a lunch packed — he didn't do it, but he had it packed. We had wine, and a little jazz, and we had our two little beach chairs and an umbrella. We were just hanging out on the beach alone," the former first lady says. "We try, we try."
