Viewer Susan shares a stunning secret on today’s episode – she loves to prepare roasts for her family, but she cheats and serves canned gravy, telling her family it’s homemade! But she’s not going to be doing that much longer, because Rachael is teaching her how to make her own delicious gravy with pan drippings.
Rachael's Gravy Lesson
To make your own gravy, start with a roux that combines equal parts butter and flour, and add your pan drippings. Once that is all whisked up and bubbly, add a couple cups of stock.
Tip: If you didn’t have a lot of pan drippings leftover from your roast, add a couple teaspoons of Worcestershire sauce for a deeper color and flavor. For poultry gravies, add a little poultry seasoning for even more depth of flavor.
That’s it! And it’s almost as easy as dumping gravy out of a jar.
