We've all been there! You move into a new home and there's at least one thing that doesn't quite line up with your taste.
In the case of our viewer Linda, who just moved into her boyfriend Jim's home, that would be the shower door — with a frosted swan detail (talk about a blast from the past!).
But for her 2018 life? It had to go! And HGTV star Chip Wade had the answer.
PROBLEM: I moved in with my boyfriend Jim, and his shower door makes me feel like I’ve traveled back into the ‘70s. How can we ditch the swan for a more modern look? —Linda
SOLUTION: To spray paint the door with paint that offers a “glass” finish — i.e. a “frosted,” semi-transparent sheen. It will look clean, even and, most importantly in this case, modern look, and it will let just a bit of light in, too. —Chip Wade
(In the case of the swan door, it took 5 coats. But there was no swan in site when Chip was done!)
Pro tips from Chip:
—Spray light coats from about 8 to 10 inches away
—Let the paint set about 10 minutes between coats
—Want to create a new design? Mask off sections with painter's tape — that way, you have peekaboo portions
—Need an alternative? Chip says you can also try vinyl film, which you can squeegee own for an even more opaque look
Watch him show us exactly how it's done in the video above!
