It’s not every day that four (yes, FOUR) related OBGYNS visit the show -- so, needless to say, our studio audience jumped at the chance to pick the brains of (triplets!) Dr. Joanna Bedell, Dr. Sara Bedell and Dr. Vicky Bedell, and their mom, Dr. Janet Gersten.
Set your alarms, ladies -- because yes, birth control pills are most effective if taken at the same time every day.
"But that does depend on which pill you're taking," Dr. Joanna Bedell says.
There are two main types -- and if you’re taking the one that only has progestin, you definitely have to take it at the same time every day.
Now, if you take the regular birth control pill -- which contains a combination of estrogen and progestin -- there’s a little more leeway. But if you make a habit out of going off schedule, you may experience some bothersome spotting and breakthrough bleeding.
The verdict? Sticking to a schedule of sorts, depending on the type of pill you take, will make your life a whole lot easier.
As for taking it in the morning or at night -- that's totally your call!
Watch the video above to hear Dr. Joanna's full explanation.
