John Cusimano created this Candy Apple Cocktail for our Halloween episode but it would be perfect for any fall party. He uses an apple-cinnamon-infused simple syrup to lightly sweeten the vodka-based drink and tops it off with Champagne.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 apple, sliced
  • Ice
  • 1 ½ ounces vodka
  • ¾ ounce cranberry juice
  • ½ ounce fresh lemon juice
  • 3 to 4 ounces Champagne or Prosecco
  • Fresh cranberries, for garnish

Yield

Serves: Makes 1 cocktail plus simple syrup for more

Preparation

To make apple/cinnamon simple syrup, heat sugar and water over low heat until sugar is dissolved. Add 2 cinnamon sticks and apple slices. Let cool and refrigerate in an airtight container until ready to use. Remove apple and cinnamon sticks after steeping in syrup for a few hours or until syrup is well-flavored.

In an ice-filled cocktail shaker, combine vodka, cranberry juice, lemon juice and ½ ounce simple syrup. Shake until chilled, then strain into an ice-filled Collins glass. Top with champagne and garnish with fresh cranberries, a cinnamon stick and a straw.

Always Drink Responsibly.
