"Sangria ideally should be made ahead of time," John says. "And I'm adding port to sweeten it up, a trick we learned from our friend Chef José Andrés."

Like Rach & John did, sip on John's sangria while you eat Rachael's Shrimp & Chorizo Paella.

Ingredients

  • Red wine, preferably rioja
  • Orange-flavored liqueur
  • Port
  • Brandy
  • Juice of an orange, plus slices
  • Apple slices
  • Cinnamon stick, optional
  • Club soda, for topping (optional)

Yield

Serves: 6 to 8

Preparation

In a pitcher, add wine, then add a little bit of orange-flavored liqueur. Add a generous splash of port and some brandy, then add some orange juice, fruit slices, and, if using, a cinnamon stick. Let it sit for a few hours. Pour into ice-filled glasses, then, if desired, top with club soda. Garnish with more fruit slices.

Always drink responsibly.
