John created this turmeric- and ginger-flavored riff on the cosmo to go with Rach's Barbecue Pork Stir Fry with Corn and Zucchini. It's got a great balance of sweet and sour, and the ginger lends a nice "spicy" note.

Pro Tip from John: You can sub cranberry juice for the pomegranate juice.

Ingredients

For the Ginger-Turmeric Simple Syrup:
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • Several slices fresh ginger
  • Several slices fresh turmeric root
For the Cosmo:
  • 2 ounces vodka
  • 1 ounce pomegranate juice
  • ¾ ounce Cointreau
  • ¾ ounce fresh squeezed lime juice
  • ½ ounce ginger-turmeric simple syrup
  • Lime twist, for garnish

Yield

Serves: Makes 1 cocktail, plus simple syrup for more

Preparation

For the ginger-turmeric simple syrup, combine sugar and water in a small saucepan. Heat and stir over low heat until sugar is dissolved. Add ginger and turmeric and let cool. Strain and refrigerate in an airtight container until ready to use.

For the cosmo, combine all the ingredients in an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Shake until chilled, then strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with lime twist.

Always Drink Responsibly.
