Gloria Estefan released "Brazil305" (which reimagines some of her greatest hits with Brazilian rhythms) in August after the loss of her mother three years ago kept her out of the studio for over a year.
"I lost my mother three years ago, which is what delayed the album, because I couldn't bring myself to sing," Gloria tells Rach and John. "I would go to the studio months afterward, and I couldn't sing. It took me over a year to be able to get back into the studio."
And she says she hopes to bring the album to life on stage in the future, once Covid is under control, but for now, "My son is working on a drive-in theater in Miami. It's an outdoor venue — a big lot that we have downtown. That really is the future. And Emilio's also working on a big building in Times Square that is going to be prepared for virtual performances of all kind."
