Gabby DiSalvo returns and is making history at the age of 18 years old.
After first meeting Rach during the virtual 2020 New York City Wine & Food Festival (NYCWFF), the Staten Island native — who is in a wheelchair due to Myofibrillar Myopathy (MFM), a rare genetic neuromuscular disorder "where every single muscle in my body is about 16-times weaker than the average person’s muscles” — cooked alongside Rach during our 2500th episode and made delicious Beef or Meatless Pot Pies.
We caught up with Gabby who is now a freshman at the University of Connecticut AND the host of her own cooking show “Cooking on Wheels” (also the name of her Instagram handle @cooking.on.wheels) where she makes yummy dishes such as cacio e pepe and tofu burrito bowls.
"Cooking on Wheels” is not only the first cooking show on the college’s student TV network (UCTV), but Gabby is also the first disabled host of ANY UCTV show.
Overall, Gabby wants to send the message that her “disability is not something that needs to be fixed or changed.”
“Anyone can cook so no matter what the situation is for you, the main thing is as long as you love to cook, you can and you will,” she says.
